Long Beach Post Looks at the Long Beach Pride Rebrand
The Long Beach Pride Team1 min read
The Long Beach Post took a candid look at our 2020 rebrand: a new, more inclusive name and a new producer for the festival.
In early 2020, the Long Beach Post’s Hi-lo section covered our rebrand under the headline “Ditching archaic name, Long Beach Pride rebrands and hires new producer for festival.” The piece looked candidly at recent years, including community criticism of our former name, Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride, and of a festival experience many felt was ready for a change.
Entering a new century hasn’t proved easy.

We value that kind of honest reporting from our hometown press. It echoed what we were hearing from our own community, and the Post saw the response in what came next.
But it appears the organization has heard these concerns from the community.

On January 15, 2020, we shared a new name, logo, mission statement and website. Our mission now reads, in part, “to produce and support activities that educate, encourage and celebrate PRIDE, inclusion and respect for humanity.” We also announced a partnership with JJ|LA, the event production company behind Los Angeles Pride, to plan an enhanced festival experience for the 37th Annual Long Beach Pride Festival and Parade.
Change like this only works when people tell us what they need. We are grateful to everyone who spoke up, and to the Post for keeping the conversation going.
