New in 2018: a Senior Fun Zone for guests 50 and older, with free bingo, karaoke, Wii games, prize drawings and a coffee bar at the Long Beach Pride Festival.
Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride, Inc. turns 35 in 2018, and we are marking the anniversary with something we have never done before. For the first time, the Long Beach Pride Festival on May 19 and 20, 2018, will have a Senior Fun Zone, a space planned with our community members 50 and older in mind.
The zone is built around fun. There will be free bingo, karaoke and Wii games, plus snacks and a coffee bar. We will hold special drawings for gift card prizes on both Saturday and Sunday, so stop by more than once.
Getting there is part of the plan, too. Transportation will run from the parking lot to the Senior Fun Zone, and we will offer tours of the festival grounds for anyone who wants to do some shopping.
It feels right to open this space in our 35th year. Long Beach Pride was started by three founders, Bob Crow, Judi Doyle and Marilyn Barlow, and Bob still volunteers for the festival every year. A celebration that has lasted this long should have a comfortable home for the generations who have been part of it from the start.
The festival takes place along Shoreline Drive, and on Sunday, May 20, the parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. on Ocean Boulevard. Plan your weekend around both, and save some time for bingo.
If you are 50 or older, the Senior Fun Zone is yours. It is the first year, a little bit of history in the making, and we would love for you to be part of it. See you there.
